Karin Maxey joined the CLC in May 2020 as Language Pedagogy Specialist, where she co-leads the LPII and Mellon: Transforming Language Instruction initiatives and organizes the Curriculum Development workshops within each of these programs. She also offers workshops on a variety of topics relating to curriculum and materials design, coordinates the College Language Competency exams, and consults individually with instructors on curricular concerns.
Before coming to the CLC, she taught all levels of German, language pedagogy, and first-year writing courses at Vassar College and Northeastern University. She received her Ph.D. in German and Applied Linguistics in 2014 from the University of Texas at Austin, after completing a dissertation on beginning German learners’ reading development. She speaks German, Swedish, and French, and in her spare time enjoys cooking and baking for friends, spending time outside, knitting, reading, growing orchids, and traveling.
