Video Conferences

Video ConferencesOverview The Polycom video conferencing system, recently acquired by
the
Division of the Humanities and managed by the Language Laboratories and
Archives, allows faculty and classes participate in events with other
universities and institutions (see Specifications
below). The system is quite flexible and
straightforward and can be used in a variety of venues. Presently, the LLA has installed the
video conferencing system in Cobb 210 and, at first, will require that
users schedule their conferences in this room. As the LLA staff becomes
more familiar with the technical variables associated
with video conferencing, we may attempt to use the unit elsewhere in
Cobb Hall. If the use of the system in C 210 and in Cobb Hall proceeds
without problem, faculty may then attempt to use the system
themselves. If you are interested in holding a video conference on- or
off-campus, please contact the LFRC.
All faculty in the Division of the Humanities are eligible to
use the video conferencing system. Students in the Division may also
use the
equipment with the support of a faculty sponsor. Reservation of the
video
conferencing system requires a two weeks' advance notice. Use of the system requires an LLA technician to set up the
unit and to
troubleshoot any
problems that may arise. The technician is not required to be
present
for the conference itself (but is available to operate the system
during the conference for a fee of $20 per hour). Availability of the Polycom system will depend on the
availability of LLA staff to assist with conferences during regularly
scheduled work hours. If staff is not available,
or if the event occurs outside of regularly scheduled work hours, the
organizer of the conference will be billed for an additional LLA staff
member at $20 per hour. Please see the Summary of Policies below. For any use of
the Polycom Video Conferencing System in the absence of an LLA staff
member, the users will be required to submit a signed blank
Interdepartmental Order
Form (Form 62). This form will be used cover the equipment in case of
damages. If the Polycom unit is returned to the LLA in good condition,
the form will be returned to the user.
