MWALLT 2020 – Virtual Hub
General Information
The University of Chicago Language Center (CLC) is pleased to be serving as a ‘virtual hub’ for the Midwest Association for Language Learning Technology (MWALLT) 2020 annual conference. A virtual hub is basically a watch party that allows you to enjoy the presentations and networking of the conference, without the travel.
The CLC is located on the second floor of Cobb Lecture Hall, 5811 S Ellis Ave. We will be broadcasting presentations in three of our classroom spaces and will be providing coffee and tea, light breakfast, and snacks. Nearby dining options for lunch are listed below.
All participants must register via MWALLT ($30). Visit the MWALLT site for more general information, the program schedule, and registration.
Parking
Free parking is available on the eastbound and westbound Midway Plaisance, which is between 59th and 60th streets. Ample parking should be available on a Saturday morning. Paid parking is available on 59th Street, Ellis Ave, and some other surrounding streets. There is a paid parking garage at 5501 S Ellis Ave.
Public Transportation
While there are express buses that go straight to campus during the week, there are no great options on Saturday. The South Shore Line, CTA bus #6, or Red Line to Garfield and then bus #55 will all get you close, but none are recommended if a ride-share service is an option.
Dining
The nearest dining options to Cobb Hall are Pret a Manger and Qdoba (both a 5 minute walk). There are also several options on 57th Street (10 minute walk) including Seoul Taco, Noodles Etc., and the Hyde Park institution Medici. The main commercial area of Hyde Park has many restaurants but is a bit further afield, on 53rd Street between Dorchester and S Lake Park Avenue (1 mile, 20 minute walk).
