Catherine Baumann is director of the University of Chicago Language Center and director of the German language program. She received her Ph.D. in Second Languages and Cultures Education at the University of Minnesota, specializing in reading comprehension and language testing. She is a certified ACTFL tester and trainer, and does consulting for high school and college language programs on a variety of curricular and assessment-related issues. She oversees all programs in the CLC.

Director, English Language Institute
Ezekiel Flannery is the Director of UChicago’s English Language Institute (ELI) where he oversees all academic and professional ESL programs. He has developed and taught many courses on North American English and U.S. cultures in a range of academic and corporate contexts around the world. Ezekiel has a passion for language pedagogy, linguistic pragmatics, and phonetics and phonology, and continues to learn languages for personal and professional growth. He holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics from Indiana University and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Illinois where he researched the interconnection between language, food and cosmology.

Language Assessment Specialist
Ahmet Dursun began working in the Office of Language Assessment in January 2016. He is responsible for the University’s language assessment programs including the Academic Reading Comprehension Exam (ARCA) and the Academic English Proficiency Assessment (AEPA).
